The Beach
After a fantastic morning at the library we continued our walk to the beach. We ate our lunch and then had a play. We learnt about ramps and how they can be a slide, a balancing beam and stairs. Friction can make someone go down the slide slowly and if you reduce friction, by using silky fabric, we can go down faster. On our return walk we looked at what grows in a forest and how all the dead plants feed the ground for new plants to grow. An interesting day.
A fantastic day at Mahurangi East Library
We had a loverly walk down to the library on Tuesday where we learnt about the Pacific Islands and its people. Mrs. Felati spoke to us about Tuvalu Island which is part of the Kiribati Islands. We learnt why the island is sinking and that there are no volcanoes on the island. The sea is rising because of global warming which is causing the island to sink. Students from the college taught us a Pacifica dance. It was great fun.
After an interesting morning we went down to the beach and had some lunch, more learning opportunities awaited us there.
